Hip-Opening Workshop

Join Jill Pawloski for this two hour workshop that will leave your hips and your heart happy! Almost all poses in yoga allows for some sort of muscle to be stretched in and around the hip area. We will flow through a slow hip-opening Vinyasa practice with awareness of all the muscles we are are using in each pose, followed by a deep releasing Yin Yoga practice to find more space within the
body.

Your hips are the connection point of both the spine and the legs. The ‘hip girdle’ and the 20+ muscles that it encompasses are the central station of the body. So working on hip mobility improves your relationship with the rest of your body and its overall well-being.

When hips are tight, they increase the load and cause overuse of the spine. In addition to the benefits of improved range of motion and circulation and decreased back pain, opening the hips can create an
energetic shift or release as well.

Yogic tradition holds the hips as a storage ground for negative feelings and pent-up emotions, especially ones related to control in our lives. Hip-opening can also create space for the birth of new ideas and new pathways.

Opening the hips gives us access to freedom in the body and in our own unique expression -creatively, physically, sexually, and spiritually.

No yoga experience necessary.

Don't Panic! Yoga for Anxiety & Depression Workshop

"Twenty years ago I was sitting with friends drinking coffee, laughing, and discussing our hopes and dreams, when all of a sudden everything went black. I started to shake, my heart was racing, and I begged my friends to rush me to the hospital...I was dying! I spent three days in the hospital while they tried to figure out what was wrong with me. Did I have a heart attack? A stroke? No...I was only 19 years old, that couldn't happen to me! After a long weekend of being poked, prodded, and scanned every which way I could, the final diagnosis came in...General Anxiety Disorder/Panic Attacks. I didn't know what that was or why it was happening to me but from that point on, I had a panic attack almost every day for ten years with these crazy constantly changing symptoms. The panic then turned into Paranoia, OCD, Depression. I chose to not take medication because for the three weeks I was on Zoloft/Paxil/Etc., I was a zombie. My life was a big fog and I did not like that feeling. I saw a therapist twice a week who helped me "control" my attacks. And then one day he suggested that I take a Yoga class. I was hesitant, but I grabbed a friend and off I went to try something else that might ease my pain. I had no idea what I was doing, but I desperately opened myself up to this new experience whole-heartedly. I left class that day and cried for two days straight. On the third day I went back and talked to my teacher about how I felt after that first class, not understanding my emotions, and she simply said to me, "You released!" I then started practicing Yoga 2-3 times a week and within six months my symptoms went away...and they never came back! Yoga HEALED me! It saved my life!" - Jill Pawloski ERYT200

Anxiety is a feeling of fear, worry, and uneasiness. We all get it, some more and worse than others. In this workshop, we will focus on relieving anxiety and reducing stress by focusing on our breath...mainly our exhales, some standing postures to ground us, and lots of forward bends and restorative poses to quiet our minds and relax our nervous system. Yoga can be a powerful tool for easing these and other symptoms of anxiety, stress, and trauma. With celebrities and athletes like Kevin Love and Carson Daly opening up about their struggles, it gives us "everyday people" the courage to open up as well. So let's talk about it, let's share our stories, let's heal...we are NOT alone!

Yoga for Anxiety & Depression with Jill Pawloski - Yoga Instructor will introduce you to a suite of techniques that can help you find peace and calm, including breath (pranayama), movement (asana), meditation, and yoga nidra (yogic sleep) techniques that can help you heal. Anyone can do this, especially after a stressful work day, or whenever you are feeling uneasy. Learn the tools to stay calm and grounded to help you wind down from any type of stress!

Open to ALL ages. No yoga experience necessary.
